The Union faction in the German Bundestag wants to submit itself with a request behind the global UNO migration pact. The pact was in the German interest, said Union Fraction vice Stephan Harbarth (CDU) today on the sidelines of a meeting of CDU and CSU deputies, at which the agreement had been discussed intensively.
The advantages of the pact would far outweigh its disadvantages, Harbarth said. The Union wants to coordinate its action with the coalition partner SPD. On Thursday, the Bundestag is discussing an AfD petition calling for Germany not to be able to sign the pact. Subsequently, the debate in the committees will continue.
„Minimum standards also in other parts of the world“
In Germany there are high international standards for migration, said the CDU politician. As a result, there is considerable migration pressure into the country. „We have to be able to establish minimum standards in other parts of the world as well.“
If there were no basic services, no health care, and no access to the labor market in other parts of the world, people went where they got it. The Union would lead the corresponding debate offensively with the AfD.
Union faction leader Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU) said, according to participants in the meeting, that if you’re a party with the „C“ in your name, you have to do something to improve the situation of migrant workers around the world. That was also in German interest. The situation of the people should be improved so that they would not even come to Germany.
SPD tip: rejection unreasonable
Even the German SPD party leader Andrea Nahles today rejected criticism of the planned UN migration pact. A rejection of Germany would be „highly unreasonable,“ she said on Tuesday in Berlin before a meeting of the SPD parliamentary group. She said that the entire government would support this request.
