Accompanied by protests, US President Donald Trump made a condolence visit to the mortally afflicted synagogue in Pittsburgh. While Trump, along with wife Melania and other members of his family, symbolically symbolized the eleven victims of the anti-Semitic attack yesterday, protesters gave vent to their displeasure with the president. Among other things, they accused him of inciting the far-right scene.
During their approximately 20-minute visit to the Tree of Life synagogue, the President and the First Lady lit candles in honor of the victims. They then placed a white flower and a small stone in front of the stars at the makeshift memorial outside the church, reminiscent of Saturday’s eleven victims. The laying down of small stones on graves is a Jewish tradition.
The president was also accompanied by his daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, both of whom are Jewish. During the Presidential visit to the synagogue, according to a present AFP reporter, there were calls from protesters who had gathered directly outside the security gates. Among other things, they called „words mean something“ and „no more hate“. According to police, about 1,500 people took part in the protest.
