An explosion in a branch of the Russian domestic intelligence service FSB in the port city of Arkhangelsk in the north of the country has today killed a man. The authorities assume a terrorist act. A 17-year-old brought a self-made explosive from a bag at the entrance, which exploded in his hands a short time later, said the National Counter-Terrorism Committee of Russia.
Three FSB officials were injured. The State Investigation Committee has opened proceedings for terrorism and possession of explosives. The facts are still unclear. The dead man is the 17-year-old from the port city. He died shortly after the fact despite medical help. After the incident, the security measures in all public buildings had been strengthened.
Only in April 2017 had there been an attack on an office of the FSB in Eastern Siberia. An armed man shot dead two people and was subsequently killed himself. The terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) had claimed the deed for itself.
