Moonstone auctioned for $ 855,000

At the auction house Sotheby’s in New York, the three only moonstones have been privately auctioned – for $ 855,000.
The three pebbles are the size of rice grains.

They came from the unmanned Soviet Luna 16 mission from 1970 and were a gift for the widow of the Russian space pioneer Sergei Pavlovich Korolev.

All other samples of lunar rocks are owned by the authorities in Russia and the United States. The three stones were first increased in 1993 for the first time. At that time, they earned $ 442,500.
