The US Internet giant Google changes after employee protests its company policy to deal with allegations of sexual harassment. „In the future, we will deal with complaints and concerns more transparently,“ promised Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a recent e-mail to the employees. „We know we have to change a lot.“
A week ago, thousands of employees had temporarily stopped working in protest against dealing with allegations of sexism in their own company. „We know we have not always done everything right in the past, and we are truly sorry,“ Pichai said in his newsletter.
The Google boss introduced a „comprehensive action plan“ to better support employees. The measures included having employees decide for themselves in the future whether cases of sexual harassment were conducted before private arbitration tribunals. Additionally, Google is expanding mandatory training and offering „live support“ for complaints and concerns.
