The construction of Xiongan Station started on Saturday to optimize China’s high-speed rail networks for Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, Chinese Railways sources said.

With a construction time of 24 months, the station is the largest of the five stations on the 92.4 km Intercity railway line between Beijing and Xiongan. The other four stations are Huangcun, the new airport, Gu’an East and Bazhou North.

When completed by the end of 2020, the station will be connected to the country’s five high-speed railways and intercity railways, taking passengers from the Xiongan New Area to Beijing and Tianjin in half an hour and the capital of the city in one hour Hebei Province, Shijiazhuang.

The project will also make Xiongan New Area an important transportation hub well connected to China’s central, southern, northwest, southwest and northeastern parts.

Sources at the China Railways said the international tenders for the station’s planning and construction plans had been completed and that it had resorted to construction experience from several integrated transport hubs at home and abroad. A variety of intelligent construction technologies would be applied so that the station would be a unique after completion, the sources said.

In a Master Plan for the „Xiongan New Area“ published at the end of April, the Chinese government described the new region as „of national importance“ after the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the „Shanghai Pudong New Area“.

About 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing, the Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province is known as China’s „City of the Future.“ It aims to create an innovation zone that combines the elements of a digital city with that of a common city while providing a livable, business-friendly environment offers.

By the middle of the century, Xiongan would become an important part of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei world-class cluster, which would take on tasks that are not related to Beijing’s capital function. Thus, Xiongan will provide a Chinese solution to the so-called „big city problem“, so the plan.
